Step 1

First, we write out our pieces, which, in an astounding twist, are numbers instead of letters. We then draw the usual four horizontal lines, erasing down the middle to make two shelves. We label the shelves accordingly, and then draw three vertical lines down each, for four spaces. This directly incorporates the first clue into the grid -- the only problem is that we now have eight slots and only seven pieces.
